The Third Eye chakra, or "Ajna" is the sixth primary chakra and is located in the center of the forehead between the brows. It is also known as the "Brow Chakra" and governs spiritual communication, awareness, and perception. It has feminine energy. In Sanskrit, Ajna translates to "beyond wisdom", "to perceive", or "to command". The third eye allows for clear thought, spiritual contemplation, and self-reflection. It allows us to perceive from a visionary perspective. The third eye also helps us to determine one’s reality and beliefs based on what one chooses to see in the world.
The third eye chakra primarily has to do with clairvoyance (ability to see); as a result, the concept of the “sixth sense,” or strong intuition, came from this sixth chakra. As the most perceptive part of the human body and spirit, it governs self-awareness, higher wisdom, visualization, clarity, discernment, imagination, and creative dreaming. When balanced and in alignment, the third eye chakra opens you up from the “me versus them” thinking for wider and broader perspectives of interconnectedness.
The Third eye chakra is associated with the pineal gland in charge of regulating biorhythms, including sleep and wake time. It’s a gland located in the brain that is a center of attention because of its relationship with the perception and effect of light and altered or “mystical” states of consciousness. It’s positioned close to the optical nerves, and as such, sensitive to visual stimulations and changes in lighting.
The Third Eye Chakra is associated with a deep, indigo, blue color. This color represents a certain tranquility and being at peace with oneself. It is also directly connected to one’s ability to see things that cannot be seen in a more traditional sense. The Element associated with this Chakra is the "Light" element.
When the Third Eye chakra is in balance and healthy you may feel quite peaceful, even tranquil. In the face of chaos, you remain calm and not panic. You are connected to your intuition and trust in it. You can see the bigger picture; therefore, you adjust your actions accordingly. You have clarity and peace of mind. You look inward for wisdom and insight. You are a good listener.
With a blocked Third Eye chakra you may experience headaches, blurred vision, sinus issues, ear problems, and dizziness. You may feel self-doubt, worried, closed minded, lost, relying on others direction, living in fantasy and illusion rather than in reality, have a lack of clarity and rejection of everything spiritual.
